The Surgical Technology program is accredited by CAAHEP (the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs). An accelerated course that includes an introduction to the basic sciences that are the foundation of practice for the Surgical Technologist and the lab facilities emulate a modern operating room.

Regular High School Diploma or equivalent, at least 18 years of age by the date of enrollment, obtain a minimum score of 70 percent in Reading and Math on the HESI exam. The HESI exam must be taken and passed prior to receiving an application packet for the program. Classes are formed based on the highest HESI exam scores. The critical thinking portion of the HESI exam is required and is used as a tie-breaker for students who achieve the same total reading and math score.

Job Duties

Assist in operations, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. May help set up operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.
