The Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting Program is designed to include classroom study and supervised clinical practice in health care facilities.The patient care technician student must complete the prescribed program of study and pass the state certification for Certified Nursing Assistant and national certificate for Patient Care Technician and Medical Assistant.
Broad units of study include: Nurse Aid, Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, Electrocardiogram Technician, Phlebotomy, Dosage Calculations, Computer Concepts, and Medical Assistant.

Program Credentials
To apply for the Patient Care Technology/Medical Assisting (PCT/MA) program, applicants must submit all general admissions requirements and program-specific requirements, which can be found in the Allied Health Application Quick Guide. Applicants may meet the entrance exam requirement by taking the HESI® Entrance Exam, the TABE Entrance Exam, or by submitting qualifying ACT® scores. The HESI® Entrance Exam consists of Basic Math Skills and Reading Comprehension, with a minimum passing score of 50% in Math and 60% in Reading, and all portions must be completed and passed within the 2-hour time limit. The TABE Entrance Exam has a 180-minute time limit and requires a minimum passing score of Level 4. Equivalent ACT® scores (minimum of 19 in Math and 20 in Reading) may be substituted in place of the entrance exams. Entrance exam and ACT® scores are valid for two years.
Additionally, TCAT Jackson Dual Enrollment students who have successfully completed the first level of certification in the PCT/MA program no more than two years before the planned start date are automatically eligible for full-time enrollment without taking an entrance exam.
